self watering system pots August 30, 2010

Self watering systems are becoming more popular especially for urban farming. However  farmers are also discovering its water and work saving benefits. The repercussion is evident in the productivity of the plant, since it is never over watered or too less attended.
This pot made out of soda plastic bottles, is probably the easiest design solution of SIP (sub-irrigation planter). The possibilities are endles though. I found in some horticulture blogs, nice designs with glass bottles. Check our links.

Making your own self-watering pot out of plastic bottles.

All you will need for that is

  1. an empty plastic bottle
  2. 4 – 5 strings
  3. soil
  4. water
  5. and your seedling

tools:

you’ll need a drill machine to perforate the wholes in the bottle cap
good sharpen scissors to cut the bottle
or you can tries with a hot knife, but please be very careful!!
